Regional stability, developments in the strategic environment, the security of energy supplies, and the threat from Islamic fundamentalism, form the tenets of the Institute’s work in Qatar.
The processes of political change in the Gulf and broader Middle East, the role of external powers, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, collaborative security structures, defence procurement, counter-terrorism strategy, the conduct of diplomacy, and potential conflict scenarios, are all monitored on an ongoing basis.
RUSI (Qatar) also draws expertise from the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies in London – the world’s oldest defence and security think-tank – combining regional understanding with a depth of knowledge of military affairs and homeland security, to provide unique insight and authority. Rusi (Qatar) also draws on our broader network of academic contacts, through our RUSI (US) office, established in Washington D.C.
RUSI’s remit spans three core fields: International Security Studies, Military Sciences, and Homeland Security and Resilience. RUSI undertakes rigorous, expert and objective analysis of current trends and developments in international security, on developments in military doctrine, defence management, and defence procurement, and on all issues involving the prevention of, and response to, internal and external threats to state security.

RUSI(Qatar) is able to undertake a wide variety of commissioned research on various aspects of security in the Gulf and broader Middle East on behalf of companies, governments, institutions and individual clients.
